yo yo...so i listened to the audio of the communication between the flight 1541 pilot and air traffic controllers before he crashed into the hudson, its really amazing and makes me proud to be going into the field. Its just so amazing how everyone was COMPLETELY calm when you have a pilot saying all his engines blew, the controller calmly suggesting where to land, the pilot calmly suggesting he's gonna crash it into the river, its just incredible
I am not liking this "stimulus" package at all. its clearly a stimulus/spending bill. i was watching someone today who put it in good perspective....he went over various parts and said "would we be able to survive without spending___billion(or millions) on ______. when you word it like that, you realize spending 88 million dollars to move the CDC to a new building is pretty wasteful and wont help the nations economy.
Also, another aspect a lot of people tend to miss is the difference between creating JOBS and creating WORK. i have heard some people defend every piece of ridiculous spending because someone will have to do it. yea, if you spend a trillion dollars on painting traffic lights pink, sure that will create work, someone has to paint them, right? but the difference is, will it create JOBS. for instance, once the national mall has been re-sodded, what will those people do? sustained jobs and temporary work are vastly different.
Lastly, i dont know how mayor Bloomberg was not shot dead over his comments on corporate bonuses. He actually trashed obamas cap on them because he said those bonuses get spent on the cities local economy....taxis, restaurants, etc. Which is true, but does 20 million need to go to ONE person?? millions of people in the city use taxis and go to restaurants. what a douche.
On that note, i applaud obama for the cap of exec pay at 500,000. Although, it worries me a bit how he worried it. A senator the week before(i forget who) proposed limiting pay on everyone in a company that got any bailout money to be no more than the president makes(400,000). What worries me about the version obama put through is not that its 500,000, its that it was worded so that "execs" coudlnt make more than that. I can only imagine the ways companies will get around that wording, probably have a CEO demote himself to mailroom, and then get a bonus. ugh. at least its a start
