what up. let the harry debate begin. don't read if you havn't read the books or seen the fifth movie. that is all.
the movie, my pros and cons:
CONS
- as always, the story inevitably seems empty due to the tremendous volume of subplot in the book. this must be ignored however, this is a movie. so it doesn't count.
- not enough rooms in the department of mysteries
- snape is again too underdeveloped as a character, although better than the last movie
- continuity regarding the appearance of death eaters, talking sirius fire head, and some other stuff i am forgetting
- emo harry
PROS
- the movie was a good movie. regardless of the book, which i thought was the worst of the series, the story was, for the most part, cohesive. and the movie was interesting
- visually, it really brought to life some awesome shit, especially the flying over london scenes and the voldey/dumbledore battle
- cut scenes of harry's mind were brilliant
- the right emotions were elicited, similar to reading the book emotions, regardless of plot changes. i felt annoyed with harry, but also bad for sirius, and sad at his death, and the whole tone was darker and more foreboding
- luna, umbridge, and grawp were done very well i thought. sirius, who i didn't really like in 3 or 4, acted more like the sirius i had in my head. several scenes with harry set up his importance ten times better than the past two movies put together. and new characters were more accurate, unlike the introduction of lupin, which was weak in the minds of fans
- key themes were maintained
- the fred and george escape scene was great
discuss.
